After a series of tests, I was diagnosed with breast cancer on Friday February 13, 2026 (yes, you read that right, Friday the 13th). Receiving the news was surreal, to say the least, and is still being processed in so many different ways as Steven and I learn new details each day. In just a matter of two weeks, we have learned more about breast cancer than we ever wished to know. It has been hard on us both, to say the least.
My ultrasound-guided biopsy results show that I am ER negative, PR negative, and the HER2 protein quantity was “not sufficient”. Because of this, I had a mammogram-guided biopsy on February 20th so they could collect more samples to get a definitive answer about the HER2 protein. Right now, we really need that piece of the puzzle to know if I will be treated as Triple Negative or HER2+. It is my understanding that both types are more aggressive but both are treatable once they know what to treat.
With each new day, we find out good news and bad news…
Bad news : I have breast cancer.
Good news : I have ductal in situ breast cancer.
Bad news : I have a little bit of invasive ductal breast cancer.
Good news : The amount of invasive ductal breast cancer I have is minimal!
Bad news : They are having a hard time getting a good biopsy sample of the invasive cancer because there is so little of it. They still might not have a conclusive answer about the HER2 protein because I don’t have enough of the bad stuff.
Good news : My MRI scan came back with no visible cancer in my lymph nodes or anywhere else in my body from shoulder to hip!
Bad news : The mass is 6.2cm x 4.5cm x 3.1cm
Good news : I am young and healthy, otherwise.
Until I find out the latest biopsy results, I am in limbo in a lot of ways. I hope to receive those results this upcoming week and will make an updated post here once I know. After that, I can meet with my medical oncologist for a series of genetic testing and find out what next steps look like. Whether I have Chemotheraphy or surgery first is unknown, but I do know both will be needed.
Actively accepting positive vibes, good energy, prayers, and whatever else you practice, right now.
xoxo, LB
